Puppy Countdown

Elva's new cow dog got his first set of shots today....

I'm pretty sure his name is going to be Ian unless something drastic happens and Elva changes her mind.  Otherwise, little Ian will be here in about two weeks.

This is the rational reason why Elva did not keep one of the Maremma puppies.  She knew she was going to need a new working dog and she knew she wanted to start with a puppy.  The REAL reason why Elva did not keep one of the Maremma puppies is that they were all sold before she could overrule rational thinking.  Which is why I heard, "WHHHHYYYYY didn't I keep a puppy????!!" at least twice a day (usually in the same conversation) until she found Ian.  So, let the countdown BEGIN!

  3. Is that not the most beautiful puppy you have all ever seen? In the top picture, Ian is the puppy on the far right. Just think, that lucky vet person got to hold him before I did!! Notice the big smile on her face! However, I will quickly make up for lost time!! Ian is six weeks old today, and he weighs nine pounds. To put this in context, Bess' biggest son weighed sixteen pounds at six weeks!

  4. I wondered how Elva could not keep one of Bess' puppies . . . now we know why. Besides, she has the option of raising another litter in a year or so if she wants another Maremma. "Ian" looks like he hasn't missed too many turns at the "milk bar". LOL Very handsome boy! Lots of fun in store -- puppies are the absolute best!

    1. I am thinking of breeding Bess once more in January of 2020 or 2021, and when I do, I plan to keep a girl! Bess' daughter will be named ILA. Isn't that a beautiful name? So at least I won't have to go through the naming dilemma!

  6. Beautiful pup, that Ian. (The word "Ian" doesn't look right in type). He will make a splendid big brother to Elva's next puppy - - - - Rebecca2
