Decisions and Observations of an Invalid

Some things I decided in the past week:

  • I am never going under general anesthesia again unless it is a life or death situation.
  • Even then, I would have to think hard about it.

  • If everyone in the world reacted to opiates the way I do, the drug wars would be over for good.  You wouldn't be able to give the stuff away.

  • Never, ever taking opiates again.  I might even have to pull up my flowers just to be safe.

  • I definitely have to pull these out - the bane of my existence.  They look so innocent don't they?
  • Honey bees are sooo much safer.

I have never owned a TV.

  • I have not been missing anything.

I am still alive and working towards well.  I am at least able to slowly wander around and take pictures.

Which is a great relief, because my eyes have been too tired to read.  I can only listen to so many audiobooks and television....well....

....I think I am going to stick my head back in the sand on that one.  It must be an acquired taste.

I hope I fully recover before I get that far.

  1. Get well and our prayers for a speedy recovery. Wheat used to be innocent until modern GMO and processing. Wonderful photos!

  2. What are the yellow flowers, the bane of your existance. So happy you are able to get up and about nowadays.

    1. I was talking about the wheat in the picture above. It is sprouting from some of the old bedding. The yellow flowers are harmless - Bird's Foot Trefoil.

  3. If you have never owned a TV, how are you watching too much television?

Glad to hear you are up and about! Hope you keep getting better and better, just hang in there.

  4. Glad you are healing and you are no better as an invalid than I am it sounds like. Same thing - anesthesia is NOT my friend!

  5. No TV here, don't like meds, loved this. How I felt after my elbow and shoulder surgeries.
    Hopefully your recovery goes well.
We do have Netflix but rarely watch it except in the dead of winter.

  6. After my knee replacement I was on those meds and was either crying or talking non-stop. Got off them as quickly as possible. I sure hope you have some help taking care of your animals! Try to stay cool for the next couple of days. This 90+ weather is too much.

  7. Sorry to hear that you are having a bad time after your surgery. I don't do well with the anesthesia either. Only take pain pills as a last resort now. I start itching and they wire me up like I've drank 10 pots of coffee.

    Take care,

  8. I love TV! I love Netflix. ( you can watch all seasons of All Creatures) but I'm with you: opiates make me feel terrible and they don't really kill the pain. Just give me two (or four) Motrin.

I hope you're on the mend - it's awful to feel like crap and be in pain. Light at the end of the tunnel?

  9. Sorry to hear you haven't been well. Hoping you are on the mend. I've only gone under once for a colonoscopy, in my life, but felt like the experience must be very similar to death. Didn't know anything, at all. No problems though. Your pics are just beautiful. Lovely flowers. Take care.

  10. My husband & I like to say "There is nothing but crap, crap and more crap on TV" All these 'reality', 'surviver' and 'talent' shows!! UGH!! We never turn the TV on during the day. We've been doing a lot of reading or playing cards or Dominos in the evenings.
    Feel better soon!!

  11. Drink lots of water to help flush your liver of that crud! Yeah, i have acute intermittent porphyria (thanks to lyme triggering my genes for it) so considering how likely it is that I would be given a porphyrinogen in hospital by mistake, I pretty much would have to be dying to go to one, and even then I'd think about it because a bout of AIC is worth than death and can go on for ever once triggered. My worst triggering so far was bad for a year and I still get symptoms five years later. Uh uh! Not again!

  12. Ps We don't watch Tv but we do love DVDs, mostly British comedy or period drama ones or funny foreign films with subtitles. Actual Tv only gets turned on for Eurovision, and for very rare Rugby Union games, like if Oz is in the World Cup. An odd combo I know, but there you have it, we're odd. :D

  13. Just catching up. Sorry to hear you've been so unwell Kris, we are sending you get well vibes from across the water. Coeliac's is just awful :-( We have major allergy issues in this house which is bad enough so I can only imagine how difficult this all is for you. Hope you start to feel better soon xxx
