Horticulture Lessons

Can you tell the difference between the pale green fern and the dark green fern? Aside from the little bug.

Other than color and a minor variation in the leaves, I don't see much difference.  However, I have consulted an expert and learned that there is indeed a very big difference.

The pale green fern is NOT edible.

The dark green fern, in technical terms - YUM!

  1. I've noticed that too with my critters, they choose the healthy looking one over the pale one.

    1. I think these are actually two different species of fern. They grow near each other, but the donkeys always avoid the lighter ones.

  3. It's a good thing you have a resident expert! Is Emma teaching Ramsey the difference, or does his "donkey sense" tell him?

    1. He knows all on his own. They seem to choose what to eat based on smell and they are very particular about it.
