Embrace it While it Lasts

After the WORST fly season ever, all the equines are out enjoying and/or hiding from the erratic Fall weather.  I am scrambling around trying to get all the jobs done that I was supposed to do this summer and didn't because of mule baby, heat, FLIES, puppy (I never meant to have a mule baby AND a new puppy at the same time, but that is how it worked out).  While the herd is out of sight, the puppy(s) are under foot.  Puppies grow fast so embrace it while it lasts.

Be Sure to Keep the Box

There are toys, which are fun, and then there is the box that the toys came in....

and if you finally get ahold of your favorite toy and have it all to yourself....

...you hold it close so all the rotten boys don't steal it.

The "Little" Baby

My "little" baby mule is 4 months old today.  He is already taller than both Ramsey and Albert and is working his way up to Ben.  Must be that hybrid vigor.

Speaking of Ben...he and Qilin are the best of buds, which is great because Qilin has already learned sooo much from hanging out with him.  They play together every day and Ben has taught Qilin that it is not polite to jump on others, that you can wrestle and bite, but never leave a mark behind, that you have to ask nicely and stop when told.  Best mentor ever.  All babies should be raised with a donkey herd.

Qilin is charming, polite, mellow, inquisitive and very friendly.

I haven't done much halter work with him, but he follows me when asked, moves his hip or shoulder at a tap, picks up his feet, can be handled anywhere, is safe to work around, knows his name and likes to try to chew on shoes - with or without toes in the way.

The more time he spends with the donkeys, the more he copies their behavior, which is a good thing.

All in all, at just 4 months old, this dragon/unicorn hybrid is living up to his lofty namesake.  Couldn't be happier with this "little" baby.

Cobbler's Bench

My first ever attempts at narrating video so be kind:)

This is what I have been doing to create special shoes for Ramsey.  As there are no donkey shoes available anywhere, I am making it up on my own.  We'll be testing them soon.....

Innocent Little Devils

Suddenly have a terrible rat infestationčść

But little rats need a lot of food to keep up with their siblings...

...and rearrange all the trees in the woods...

They've decided that going around or over this log is very inefficient so they are building a tunnel through it.

All that work does take its toll though.

And no, I did NOT get two more puppies - the last of this litter came for a playdate to help Kaia reshape the woods to her liking.  Jaxson here is going to his new home this weekend.

Sweet, sweet little May is going all the way to Germany, but not for a few weeks yet so we may see more of her.

They all look soo innocent.

Lot's of innocent little devils around here lately.
