Final Accounting

One of the many little jobs that I hadn't gotten around to yet has been my taxes, but that is one job I can't put off much longer.  Nothing like a deadline to get a body moving.  So, I've been getting all of my stuff together and trying to impose some pitiful semblance of order on piles of paperwork. One of those piles included all the vet bills from Cornell, et all.  I finally gathered up my courage and added them up.  Ready for this?

Cornell:  $7768.17

Other vets:  $579

Bandaging and other medicaments: $400

Total:  $8747.17

As a counterbalance to that rather frightening number, you amazing people contributed a total of $5600 to that daunting sum.  I don't say much about it lately because I just don't know what to say.  It just blows my mind.  I hope every one of you knows how much all of your help and support means to me.

I also hope all of you know what it means to me that you stop by my little blog to visit most days.  Your comments and feedback are what helps keep this blog going.  I know I am terrible about responding to your comments and I hope to do better in the future.  It is not that I don't want to, it is a matter of lack of time and doubt.  I never know if anyone actually comes back to read my responses or if they just sort of disappear into the ether, especially since it usually takes me at least a day or two to answer.  Blogging in general is like that.  I write what I enjoy writing or feel a need to write and send it out into the world.  Often there is little or no feedback other then the fact that the blog averages about 400 page views a day.  That also blows my mind.  I know it can't all be from spammers.:)

In the end, I guess I just wanted to say Thank You!  once again and let all of you know where things stand.  I will be taking the PayPal button down soon if I can get blogger to cooperate (often iffy, every time I try to make a change to my template I end up cursing and swearing a lot so I try to avoid it.  I may need a bit more sunshine before I can tackle that).

I would also like to invite all of you to let me know if there is something you would like to see more of or would change on this blog.  I would be very interested to hear what you have to say.  We're all ears.

PS - this photo of Ramsey (taken yesterday) struck me because it is one of those fleeting moments where I still see a baby donkey.  Yet, almost like an aura or a visible echo, I can see the beautiful grown-up donkey he will one day be.  He is going to be such a handsome man.

  1. The shot of Ramsey has needs a caption..."Mom, Mom! I think I see spring way off in the distance".

  2. He may grow up, but I think he's always going to feel like our kid brother :-). You've done a great job taking care of him and I love your blog. Thank you!

  3. I'm greedy for MORE VIDEOS!!! But I know that takes time. When Ramsey loses his "Ewok" head, the baby will mostly disappear, I'm thinking. I love this photo.

    1. I'll try. The trouble is my internet connection. It takes almost 4 hours to upload a 2 minute video, and that is when it actually does finish uploading. We are supposedly on the list for upgraded phone lines, but I will believe it when I see it.

  4. I stop by every morning to get my donkey fix. You do a marvelous job on your blog. Don't know how you manage to post to the blog between your job - Ramsey care -trips to Cornel -- trimming feet -- getting hay -- getting rid of all the winter coats --- I'm tired just thinking about it.

  6. Thank you for taking the time to share your blog with us. Those of us who are City and Allergy-bound do appreciate your insights, information and (of course) the photos and videos. Ramsey's card is in my office, right next to my computer monitor. He gets me through many a tough day.

  7. I can tell you that I do read every post, although sometimes I don't comment simply because I am working while peeking in, and although I can read and sort through paperwork, I cannot type and sort through paperwork.
But I thoroughly enjoy this blog. ONe of my fav's fore sure.

  8. Kris... I am so glad we were able to help you and Ramsey and his dear little mama. That last picture says it all... a healthy, beautiful donkey relaxing in the spring sun. And Kris, don't change ANYTHING, it's perfect!

  9. You do a great job on your blog, and I return each day as yours is one of my favorites. I love the stories and photos! I wish I could accept your thanks, but as I have my own financial problems I wasn't able to contribute to yours. I am, however, thankful that so many people did help you get Ramsey through that terrible time. Yes, he is definitely going to be one very handsome donkey. And, watching him grow, I wonder just how much bigger than his mother he'll get!! Oh, and I do sometimes look back at older posts to see your replies to people.

    1. It's not all about money Nancy, I appreciate your caring support. I write the blog because I enjoy doing it, but I probably wouldn't keep doing it if there weren't people like you out there who enjoy reading it.

  12. I see no need to change anything with the blog. There is a nice variety of subjects, of course the donkeys are my favorite.
I always go back to the older posts to check and see if I have missed any comments. It's interesting to see what other people have to say!
I'm hoping Ramsey dosen't have the roan gene and stays that nice dark brown color.

    1. You know, I've been thinking about that myself recently. I have found a couple of white hairs on Ramsey's forehead and the side of his neck where the catheters were. I hope he stays dark too, which probably means he won't!:)
