I thought this was kind of an interesting thing. I am sure this must happen regularly, but I have never noticed it before....Do you see the tree shape in the ice here...
With the crazy briefly warm/super cold weather we have had, at some point the sun reflected back off the ice on the pond. At the same time the shadow was darker colored so it absorbed some of the sun and melted faster than the white ice...
leaving a lovely tree-footprint in the snow.
I think it is also interesting that, because of the angles and sun position (that is my guess anyway), this is the only tree in the pond that made a footprint. I hope I am not the only one who thinks this is really cool:) There has to be some silver lining to Mother Nature's crazy fickleness after all.
I love what your eyes see (I think I'm repeating myself ;)), and I would feel sorry for anyone who does not think this is really cool!
ReplyDeleteSo cool!
ReplyDeleteI find this truly amazing -- thanks for observing it and then letting us all know about it. I'm not too likely to ever encounter it here in the southwest desert.
ReplyDeleteThat is exceptionally cool. I've never noticed something like that before. I have noticed that (apparently), the flagstones in my porch are consistently warmer than the cracks between them. When it snows, my backyard looks like a giraffe pelt.
ReplyDeleteI think that is super cool!
ReplyDeleteI used to have a picture of the side of my feed shed that was sort of similar. It had been frosty but the sun was coming out. Danny had been standing next to the shed to enjoy the sun. When he moved there was a perfect outline of him on the shed in the frost.
That's cool and somewhat creepy looking :)
ReplyDeleteAmazing, I've never seen anything like that before, but then in Ireland we tend not to be very familiar with snow and ice.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful observation - I've never seen that. Thanks for showing it to us!

ReplyDeleteCool!
