when you are going out to check on the pregnant donkey at all hours of the night or when you generally get home from work at 2:30am....
I met one of these fellows trying to come into my house tonight, I nearly tripped over myself trying not to step on him....
These photos are of a specimen I met in the woods a couple of years ago, but my late night visitor looked just like him. I don't know how big they can get, but this one and the one I nearly squished were both 8-10 inches long. I politely directed my would-be squatter over to the firewood pile. An accommodation that I think both of us will be happier with then if he were crawling around on my floors and hiding under the couch. While I was rather notorious for bringing home odd creatures when I was a kid, I have found that I prefer my pets to be of the warm, fuzzy variety. Fortunately, he (or she, I have no idea which) agreed and didn't require much persuasion to relocate.
Wow, I have never seen one myself. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteLovely creature, I beg he/she eats small insect...So It may be nice to have it near, having a menu of flys and mosquitos.
ReplyDeletePretty to look at, but I doubt I would ever get over stepping on one. You are checking Emma at night? Come ON Emma!
ReplyDeleteI have been watching Emma like a hawk, she looks like she could foal at any moment, but nothing happens!
DeleteOh my! He/she is very pretty. What is it? It looks like a lizard, but do you know what kind?
ReplyDeleteAlso, you know, as much as you do the baby watch dance, Emma is going to have that baby while you are at work...LOL Murphey's law....and then you won't get any pictures of the birth! Do you have someone to call and come sit vigil if you are lucky to catch her in the act? Gotta have someone taking pictures too! I am getting so excited, and really really so wish I could be there for the adventure! Emma reminds me of Star, and I KNOW, once I see your baby, I will want a baby! LOL NOT! I can't go there! HAHA......I will just enjoy Emma's! from afar!
I believe this is a spotted salamander.
DeleteI am very worried that Emma will have her baby when I am not here. I can handle missing out on the birth, I am just terrified that something will go wrong and she will need help and I won't be around to give it. Hopefully all will go well and we will all have a baby donkey to enjoy.
