Courting the Dragon

One of the Government Officials who showed up for my stone moving project took a real liking to the Old Red Dragon.

She tried very hard to find a means of communication....

when telepathy didn't work, she tried a more direct approach.

The other officials were shocked and appalled and this blatant public display of affection....

and when she asked of she could play with the hoses....

they were utterly astounded and reduced to making funny faces behind her back.

She didn't care.  Apparently some people actually like the smell of diesel fuel....

and would have been perfectly content to just stand there, basking in the hot-oil/grease/diesel-fume blast of super-heated air blowing off the engine, directly into her face.*

*The tractor was running during all of this as it was too hot to shut down just then.  While I appreciate Tessa's extreme fearlessness in the face of dragons, I did try to explain to her that a little caution is not a bad thing.  She was too entranced to listen.  Isn't that always the way?

  1. Looks like love at first sight! Who says Government Officials don't have feelings?! Thanks for making us smile :-)

  2. Our mares and mules will take the seat cover off our tractor if it is left in their meadow.

They think the tractor while not running is a great place for a butt scratch!

Tessa is extremely curious and fearless!

    1. I can't leave the tractor in the field with them anymore. Their idea of 'tractor maintenance' is a wee bit scary - for them and the tractor.

  3. What a silly horse!
    Or brave? I'm not sure...

  4. Whoa- she is brave to be sticking her nose up next to that hot tractor! She must be a fearless explorer!

  5. Tess is a horse with very good taste. I'm guessing...Farmall maybe 504? The parts of the dash, the air filter, steering wheel...looks familiar!

  6. That was hilarious! Danny is like that too. When ever we are working on the tractor he makes a point of getting right in the way. Most horses will move away when you head towards them but he will not move even with the treat of running him over.

I just spent a good amount of time catching up on your posts. I don't envy the haying, or the weed killing, but looks like you have been getting plenty of live entertainment! :)

  7. I think Tessa likes an intellectual challenge, and here she was analyzing what the Dragon has that she doesn't that made you ride Dragon instead of her. ;) What a precious, precious horse! (I like a lot that you don't cut her mane short and even.) Another wonderful series of pictures :)

  8. Funny how animals have such strong curiosity. I'm sure that sensitive nose felt the heat and Tessa knew to not get any closer.

  9. I always wonder why horses think Machinery is so interesting. We see it as ordinary, they see something new to explore and if it's in the pasture - it's fair game!
