  3. Impressive by hand...not too many do that any more although many Amish families around here do.

  4. Never seen a dairyperson do it this way. Normally, the cows are fed in a milking parlor while they are being milked. They come willingly at milking time and don't have to be dragged by a rope or tied to a tree. Milking in a barn while the cows are fed goes back hundreds of years....it's the easy best way, and the cows are happier because they get to eat grain while they're being milked.

    2. Only one of the cows gets milked, the others are all just hanging out being nosey and Shelley is right, the milk cow is Crackhead-Jane and she looooves being milked, especially if she can scratch her neck on a tree at the same time:)

  5. What a cooperative milk cow, allowing to be milked out in the pasture without some hay to occupy her mind. And the pup gets the milk? Rebecca2

    1. Ian, the pigs, and I mostly get the milk, although Bess always gets some too. Kelsey does not like to drink out of the milking bucket!

  6. Very cool way to milk your girls. They all appear content and patient in waiting their turn. If I were a cow, I do believe I would rather be milked by a gentle hand that cared about me rather than a machine. Thanks for sharing!
