The Wooley Tide

It's that time of year....

These were the firsts arrivals a few days ago, a nice set of triplets.

With a proud and attentive mom - Flora.  She was one of the X twins from a few years ago, one of the two with the X on the face, which you can just barely see now.

This morning brought a full set of quads.  All healthy and bouncy and delivered with no problems or assistance.

FB doesn't like for the moms to raise more than two babies so a few of these lambs will probably go to new homes and be raised as bottle babies.  It is the only good way to ensure that everyone gets enough to eat and that the mom stays healthy.  We'd prefer it if these ewes stuck with having twins, but there is no arguing with them.

Catarina, who also got sheared last week and is looking especially space-alien like, is deeply interested in the new babies and is very eager to meet them.  She loves her sheeps.

There are lots more babies on the way....

...maybe even another space alien.

I presume space-alien babies arrive in the normal fashion, but we will be on the lookout for odd flying objects just in case.  You just never know when aliens are involved.

Meanwhile, the more prosaic sorts will, hopefully, continue popping out little lambs in good order.

  1. I know that one of my co workers loves lambing time. She brings in photos of all the new ones for us to go ahhhh...over!
Looks like things are going well. They are adorable.

  4. I am a horse trainer, but this winter I went to a llama training workshop. I thought that maybe I'd add a few camelids to my client base. But, whoah! They are aliens! Being looked down on by a llama (that periscope neck!) is totally different than a horse's gaze from up high. I'm sticking with horses :)

  5. Darling little lambs. My folks raised a bottle lamb for a neighbor one time, many years ago. For a couple of years, the grown-up "lamb" would come over to the fence to greet my folks. Catarina manages to look regal, even in her shorn state.

    1. Caterina was sheared by putting her into this chute-like thing, also called stocks, and she really did not seem to mind it too much. She also had her feet trimmed! The man who sheared her did a good job, although I could tell that he didn't really like Bess, which is a MAJOR strike for him!!

    2. How could someone not like Bess?

  8. They are adorable! I would take a bottle baby if we were local! I think it's great that you cap them at two so everyone stays healthy. If only you could explain that to the ewes ;) I love Catarina and would LOVE to see a space alien baby <3

  9. She looks adorable with her family. There's nothing sweeter then a young lamb. But how could he not like Bess?

  10. I don't have the llama gene, if that is a thing like the horse gene. :D To me they really do look like aliens. Love the lambies though! Great news that they all came safely!
