Hay Comes First

I thought I'd actually write a blog post today, but then I finaly got a call back from the guy I have been hoping to buy hay from this year.  He will have hay for me and surprised me when he said he could bring some over this afternoon.  There went today's plans, but filling the hay sheds trumps all but life and death emergencies.  So, enjoy a sunny day on the farm instead.

  2. Did you plant that run of Iris? Stunning. And what other flower is blooming within the grasses?

    1. I did plant them. They came from RB a few years ago when she was thinning some out. They are one of the few plants that I have planted here that have actually thrived. Many others have not. I can't remember what the pink wildflowers are. I want to say wild thyme, but I don't think that is right....

  3. Beautiful flowers, pretty hens, Ramsey has yet to shed out----. You mean Conner just lets the hens walk around anywhere they want to? Years ago my husband came into the house laughing. He had just witnessed Hannah, our Rottie, herd stray chickens back to the neighbor's house. Its in the blood, I guess.

    1. Ramsey is working on a new coat. It is a process:)

Connor has excellent manners around the poultry and generally pretends that they don't exist.

As for your rottie...you can take the dog off the farm, but you can't take the farm out of the dog:)

  5. Your pictures are a delight! Haying has started here, too, and I am ashamed to tell you that there is still hay here that has been sitting in pastures for two years (big bales). It's such a shame to see waste.

    1. I hate seeing hay go to waste like that too. At least it is adding nutrients back into the soil while it sits and rots:)

  6. Hay definitely wins! Thanks for the photos though. I love your place- it's stunning.

  7. Hay is the winner here too. Love the flowers and...of course the chickens!
I would like to have some chickens next year, but we need to build them a safe place. My new neighbors have a beautiful new chicken coop. I told them I should have it for a photo studio instead of it being a coop!
