We too have wet, acidic soil for several months each year (Pacific Northwest) Proper diet and vit/min for the donkeys has made a big difference but I constantly worry about white line separation (usually trims out) and shedding frogs in winter. The transition from wet winter to dry summer is hard on hooves too. Question: how useful do you think apple cider vinegar is sprayed on once a week during winter?Cynthiahttp://www.donkeydame.blogspot.canoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1432762024762532275.post-33644617814475083202016-02-29T18:35:07.369-05:002016-02-29T18:35:07.369-05:00This is EXACTLY what happened to George's feet...This is EXACTLY what happened to George's feet! Luke's have actually gotten stronger, thicker and tougher, and Romeo's are the same as they were in VA Beach. But George's have noticeably weakened and softened, even though the barefoot trimmer comes every four weeks like clockwork. It's this mud, and I'm not surprised at all to hear the pH balance is a big factor. I'm just about to scrape out behind the barn and fill it with crushed granite or stone dust or crusher run. Then in the spring, up goes the track, finally. They WILL have a Paddock Paradise this year.
